Teen who drowned in Lake Benbrook this week is identified
The Tarrant County medical examiner’s office has identified the body recovered from Benbrook Lake on Thursday as that of Niraj Bhujel, 16, of Fort Worth.
The teen was swimming Wednesday evening about 200 yards south of a boat ramp and was seen going under but failed to resurface, according to police.
Police and firefighters responded to a call of a possible drowning at about 6:30 p.m. at the lake on the southwest edge of Fort Worth.
Fort Worth and Benbrook firefighters and police began to search, but the boy was not found before the sun went down.
Firefighters resumed the search at 9 a.m. Thursday and found the body about 50 feet from the lake’s shore about an hour later.
