Former deputy not charged in shooting of inmate at DFW Airport
A Dallas County grand jury declined to indict a former deputy from Oklahoma after shooting an inmate who attempted to escape custody at DFW International Airport last year.
According to a DallasNews.com story, on Feb. 13, 2015 John Werts and another deputy were escorting Brent James Taff from Utah to Oklahoma.
Taff had been accused of threatening the judge presiding over a kidnapping case against him, according to the story.
Tuff attacked Werts after his handcuffs were removed so he could use the bathroom, then Werts fired two shots at Taff, hitting him in the hand, according to an airport spokesman. Taff ran out of the bathroom and through a security checkpoint before being apprehended.
Taff faces charges of assault and escape but has been found incompetent to stand trial, the story reports.
