Tarrant County to spray for mosquitoes in West Nile-positive areas
Ground spraying will begin Friday night in areas of unincorporated southeast and southwest Tarrant County because recent mosquito samples tested positive for West Nile virus, Tarrant County Public Health said Wednesday.
The samples were from the areas around Ann Lane, a few miles northwest of Rendon, and Colina Vista Lane, a few miles west of Crowley near Chisholm Trail Parkway.
Spraying in those areas will be between 9 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday, weather permitting, according to a news release.
This year, of 4,235 mosquito samples tested, 500 have been positive for West Nile virus. The positive samples were found across the county, from Grapevine to Benbrook and from Mansfield to Lake Worth.
Twenty-seven human West Nile infections have been reported to the health department.
For protection against mosquitoes, people should dump standing water where mosquitoes breed, wear repellent and long sleeves and slacks from dusk to dawn.
