Light drizzle mixed with freezing temperatures greeted commuters in Tarrant County Monday morning, but it should be gone by the afternoon.

Light freezing rain was reported in northwest Tarrant County, but no major traffic issues were blamed on the weather, according to forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Fort Worth.

The temperature was at 30 degrees at Alliance Airport just after 8 a.m. Monday, and 31 at Meacham Airport in north Fort Worth. The NWS office in Fort Worth reported it was 32 at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport and 34 in Arlington.

Rainfall totals from overnight showers were light in Tarrant County, .18 inches of rain in Arlington and .22 inches at D/FW Airport.

The airport reported 70 delays and 67 cancellations as of mid-morning Monday, according to flightaware.com.

Light ice was reported in Montague and Jack counties to the northwest of Fort Worth, said meteorologist Dennis Cavanaugh at the NWS office in Fort Worth on Monday.

Tarrant County could see partly sunny skies Monday afternoon as temperatures might reach 40 degrees.

“After a couple of days in the 70s people better have their coats ready because it’s going to be cold,” Daniel Huckaby, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office, said Sunday. “We’re looking at cold rain and wind chills in the 20s if not colder.”

But, he added, “It is February. You can’t complain too much.”

Forecasters had expected little accumulation of ice on roads because of the warm temperatures that preceded the cool down.

Late Monday an upper-level disturbance is expected to roll through the area, which may bring a slight chance of snow, Huckaby said.

In the immediate Tarrant County area, there could be tiny amounts of snow Tuesday morning, Huckaby said. The more significant snow could be north and west of Tarrant County, Huckaby said.

Forecasters are calling for a 20 percent chance of snow overnight into Tuesday and a low temperature around 30 degrees.

Low temperatures in the low to mid-30s are expected to be around until Friday, when the next chance for rain appears in the forecast.

But temperatures should start warming up after Tuesday, with sunny skies and highs approaching 55 degrees Wednesday and 59 degrees Thursday, according to forecasts.
