FWISD looks to sell Charles Nash Elementary after closure in May
The Fort Worth Independent School District has filed a request for proposals for the purchase of the Charles Nash Elementary School campus, which closed in May, according to public files.
The elementary school was of 18 schools that will close over four years after the board approved the closures in June.
Charles Nash Elementary had been operating for 99 years at the time of closure. The historic building was built in 1927 and sits on the edge of downtown Fort Worth.
FWISD released the request for proposal on May 29, and is giving people the opportunity to submit proposals for purchase of the building.
Proposals must be submitted by July 24, according to the file.
The file outlines certain things that cannot operate in the former school, such as the operation of a private or commercial golf course, country club, massage parlor, hot tub or suntan facility, racetrack or other facility used for gambling, any store in which the sole business is the sale of alcoholic beverages for consumption off premises, any cashing store, or any charter school.
Each development plan must include a plan to preserve the trees on the property for as long as possible.
It does not list a minimum asking price, and says it may consider a ground lease but is not obligated to do so.
The file says it will pick a proposal based on experience and qualifications, approach and development plan, purchase price, ability to close, and financial ability.
The selection committee will consist of a minimum of three district staff members to evaluate all the proposals.
The proposals will be evaluated, ranked, and one or more respondents may be interviewed.
The selection committee will then make a recommendation of the best proposal to the district board.
The timeline listed in the request for proposal lists the closing around November to December 2026, but says the dates are subject to change.
