Tarrant County College is set to open new technology clean rooms in October.

The school will renovate existing classrooms into simulated, self-contained clean rooms that will provide controlled environments for nanotechnology, microelectronics and robotics programs. The rooms will also provide students with opportunities to train for jobs in vacuum technology and the semiconductor industry.

The project is a grant partnership for semiconductor technology between TCC, Penn State University and the University of Texas at Arlington and is expected to cost $1.5 million, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

“It is something that we can use for multiple programs and provide skills training at a level that we’ve not been able to up until now,” TCC Chief Financial Officer Pamela Anglin said.

The clean rooms will also be available for use by high school students enrolled in dual credit programs through TCC.
