Fort Worth ISD investigates alleged inappropriate conduct by North Side teacher
A North Side High School teacher is on administrative leave while Fort Worth ISD and police investigate allegations that he had inappropriate communication with a minor, officials said.
North Side High Principal Manny De La Cruz wrote in a message to parents Monday night saying that school officials “are aware of an online post circulating this evening that alleges inappropriate communication by a (North Side) High School staff member.”
“Please know that Fort Worth ISD is actively reviewing the matter and is following all appropriate procedures to determine the facts and respond accordingly,” De La Cruz wrote. “We understand that this information may cause concern, and we want to reassure you that the safety of our students is our highest priority. As always, we remain committed to maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment. We will continue to monitor the situation and share updates when appropriate.”
As of Wednesday, no criminal charges have been filed against the teacher.
Fort Worth ISD told the Star-Telegram in a statement that “Upon learning of the allegations, the district took swift action in alignment with district policy. The employee has been placed on administrative leave while the matter is under investigation.”
“The safety of our students remains our top priority, and Fort Worth ISD remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and student safety,” the school district’s statement says. “The district is working closely with law enforcement and other appropriate agencies to ensure a thorough review of the situation. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, we are unable to share further details at this time.”
Fort Worth police also released a statement saying, “The Fort Worth Police Department has been notified of an allegation involving inappropriate communication by a Fort Worth ISD teacher. We are working closely with the school district to verify and confirm the details of the reported allegations.
“Due to the sensitive nature of this matter and the involvement of a minor, no additional information can be released at this time,” police said. “We appreciate the community’s understanding and cooperation as we work to ensure a thorough and proper investigation.”
When the allegations began circulating on social media Monday night, videos showed a crowd gathering on the high school campus, including some who reportedly vandalized the teacher’s car. A police report was filed related to the vandalism, according to police records.
No arrests were noted on the report, but a police spokesperson said those responsible for the vandalism could face charges.
