The season of state testing has recently passed for elementary school students in Texas, and all eyes are set on the countdown to summer vacation, which begins May 23 in the Fort Worth Independent School District.

Although it won’t be the last time the third-, fourth- and fifth-graders take the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, or STAAR, it’s potentially been decades since their parents and caregivers were required to test their own knowledge on subjects such as reading comprehension. The Star-Telegram has created a reading quiz using STAAR practice questions provided by the Texas Education Agency. Scroll below to read the passages, answer the corresponding questions and see how your reading skills fare. The final score will appear once all questions are answered in each section.

There are nine questions total with three reading passages. The questions start at third-grade level and increase in difficulty up to fifth-grade level. Good luck!

When you’re done with the quiz below, try testing your math knowledge in another STAAR quiz here: https://bit.ly/4mcDX7x
