Chisholm Trail High locked down when teens from another school came to campus
A high school in the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw Independent School District was placed on a short lockdown on Tuesday, April 15, after unauthorized people came onto the campus, school officials said.
Several teenagers who are students in another school district came to Chisholm Trail High School to watch one of their friends play in a softball game, said Megan Overman, the district’s executive director of communications, in an email to the Star-Telegram.
The school’s police officers detained the teens because it was initially unknown why they were on campus without authorization, according to the district.
School officials said their investigation found that there was never a threat made to the campus and the teens did not have any weapons.
Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD police investigated the incident, Overman said.
In a message sent to Chisholm Trail High School families, officials said that the school went into lockdown about 3:20 p.m. The lockdown was lifted at 3:42 p.m. while those teens were in police custody.
“While a lockdown may seem like a strong measure to take in this situation, we initially did not know the intention of individuals and will always err on the side of caution in the best interest for the safety of our entire campus community,” Principal Winston McCowan said in the message.
“While we are thankful this was resolved without incident, a situation like this can be scary for students and staff,” he said. “Our counselors are available to speak with any student who may want to talk about what took place.”
The school continued with its instructional day and all after-school activities as planned, according to the message.
