A far north Fort Worth homeowners association has asked a judge to remove the five Keller school board members who planned to split the district.
In a petition filed March 27, the Heritage Legal Task Force, representing the Heritage Homeowners Association, requested the removal of board President Charles Randklev and members Heather Washington, John Birt, Chris Coker, and Micah Young for “incompetency and official misconduct.”
The five have engaged in “persistent, systematic, and secretive conduct for the purpose of hiding its business from the public it serves,” the task force said in its filing.
The HOA joined a lawsuit filed by a district resident on March 3 against members of the Keller school board, alleging that they violated the Texas Open Meetings Act when they met in private to discuss a plan to split the district.
The plan to split the district along U.S. 377 was called off on March 14, when Randklev and interim superintendent Cory Wilson sent an email to district residents. The email stated that the detachment would cost “tens of millions” because of bond debt distribution.
This amended petition comes only days after the defendants’ attorneys filed a response on March 24 to the initial lawsuit. In the response, the board denied it had violated the Texas Open Meetings Act and that the plaintiffs have no proof of such happenings.
District spokesperson Bryce Neiman said Keller ISD does not comment on pending litigation.
“We’re focused on maintaining exceptional educational opportunities for our students as we navigate the current Texas public school funding crisis,” he said.
Board attorney Tim Davis did not immediately return a request for comment.
