Lone finalist to lead Fort Worth ISD to be announced on Tuesday, school board says
The Fort Worth ISD Board of Education will announce its lone finalist for the district’s superintendent position at a meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 18, district officials said on Friday.
The announcement comes about four months after the previous leader, Angelica Ramsey, resigned from the position amid concerns about the district’s academic performance.
The search began Jan. 21 after the district’s board voted to begin accepting applications.
District leaders did not engage an outside firm for the brief search, increasing the likelihood that the next superintendent could be an internal hire.
Interim superintendent Karen Molinar, a 26-year veteran of the Fort Worth school system, was appointed to that post in October and said she planned to apply for the permanent position.
Molinar previously served the district as interim superintendent during the search that brought Ramsey to Fort Worth ISD.
Molinar has emphasized connections with community and business leaders, and stressed the need for improvement in the district’s reading performance.
She started with the district as an elementary school teacher in 1997.
The board meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the District Service Center, 7060 Camp Bowie Blvd.
Texas law calls for a mandatory 21-day waiting period after a school superintendent finalist is named before the board can take action to hire the superintendent.
