Eagle Mountain-Saginaw parent barred from school district property after boarding bus
The parent of an Eagle Mountain-Saginaw school district student won’t be allowed on campus or at district events after district officials Thursday said he chased a bus, pounded on its hood and eventually boarded it.
In a letter sent to parents after the incident, Prairie Vista Middle School Principal Wat Harden said the parent was yelling and hitting the school bus when it made a stop on its route before he boarded it, frightening students on the bus.
Crisis counselors were made available Thursday to the students who were on the bus, Harden said in the letter.
Police both from the school district and Fort Worth were called to the bus and the parent was given a criminal trespass warning and barred from district property or events in the future.
The incident occurred across the street from Copper Creek Elementary School, another Eagle Mountain-Saginaw school district campus in Fort Worth.
The call to police resulted in emergency vehicles in front of the school, but the incident did not involve or impact any of the elementary school students, Daniel Dodson, the principal of that campus, said in a sent a letter to Cooper Creek students’ parents.
“We’re already having a wonderful day of learning, but since this happened in front of our school, I wanted you to be aware of the situation. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out,” Dodson said in the letter.
Harden said in his letter to parents that aggressive behavior toward a school bus or bus driver could result in criminal charges.
“The school bus is an extension of the classroom, and this type of action will not be tolerated,” Harden wrote in the letter. “If you ever have a concern about something happening on a school bus, the correct way to resolve the situation in the best interest of everyone involved is to reach out to an administrator at our school.”
He also noted in his letter that the district is investigating what happened on the bus before the parent boarded it, but did not provide any details on whether events on the bus beforehand had anything to do with the parent’s actions.
A Fort Worth police spokesman told the Star-Telegram in response to a request for information that he was not notified of anything major happening on the call.
