Fort Worth ISD Superintendent Angélica Ramsey’s three-year contract was extended this week after a closed-door evaluation by the district’s Board of Education on Tuesday.

She was hired less than a year ago in September and completed her first school year focused on connecting with teachers and parents while cutting costs and administrative positions to combat declining enrollment.

The board voted 8-0 to extend her contract for an additional year, which will now expire in 2026, with limited public discussion. Trustee Kevin Lynch abstained from voting.

“We’re looking forward to the next three years and working together with Dr. Ramsey and moving our school district forward, putting the highest emphasis on our student achievement,” Board President Camille Rodriguez said at the meeting.

Although Ramsey did not speak about the contract itself, she noted her excitement for the upcoming school year to start. Students return on Aug. 14.

“In two weeks, we bring back all of our staff as we start professional development for the ‘23-’24 school year. (I’m) just really excited about seeing our students on that first day of school… and continue our learning together as we grow into one Fort Worth,” Ramsey said.

Neither Ramsey nor Lynch could not be reached for additional comment as of Thursday afternoon.

Ramsey’s annual salary is $335,000, according to her original contract. She previously served as superintendent at the Midland Independent School District before coming to Fort Worth.
