The Grand Prairie school district is investigating and the local chapter of the NAACP is calling for action after a video circulated on social media that officials say shows students at John Dubiski Career High School using a racial slur.

In the video, students say a racial slur directed toward Black people and write the word on sticky notes.

The Grand Prairie NAACP “expects actions to be taken against students” and any educators involved, the chapter’s president, Angela Luckey, said in an email to the Star-Telegram.

Luckey called for “in-depth training for campus administrators, staff, students and parents to address the racial discriminatory actions by these students.”

In a statement to WFAA-TV on Monday, Grand Prairie ISD officials said, “Earlier today, we were made aware of a video that has been passed around via social media that we believe to include students from Dubiski Career High School using an offensive racial term. I can assure you that we will fully investigate this situation and hold those involved accountable. The District is on Spring Break this week, so we will have more information when school is back in session next week.”

In a Facebook post, school board member Amber Moffitt wrote, “There is a video being shared on social media that has been brought to my attention. The behavior displayed in the video is totally unacceptable. As your GPISD Board Trustee I am adamant about each individual involved being held accountable for their actions. Our Superintendent will be addressing this matter immediately following Spring Break.”

Dubiski is a “school of choice with a focus on equipping students with the skills they need for 21st-century professions,” according to the school’s website. “Students choose a sequential course of study designed to prepare them for a 2-year, 4-year, or technical college. In addition to their high school diploma, students are also eligible to complete programs that award them with advanced certifications, industry training, and internship and career-field experiences. Dubiski offers HB5 endorsements, including STEM, Business & Industry, and Public Service.”
