Fort Worth’s new superintendent makes $335K a year. What about other TX school districts?
Fort Worth’s new school district leader is making $335,000 as a base salary, with options for bonuses up to $25,000 for meeting goals set by the board, including those regarding student achievement.
Angélica Ramsey officially started in the role of Fort Worth superintendent of schools Wednesday after signing a 22-page contract Tuesday night that trustees have been working on during special meetings over the last several weeks.
Former Fort Worth ISD Superintendent Kent Scribner had a base salary of $330,000, with options for bonuses.
Such incentives were requested by parents who spoke out at recent board meetings.
But how does the new leader’s salary compare to other school superintendents in Texas?
The new salary puts Ramsey as the fourth highest-paid school leader in Tarrant County, behind Arlington schools Superintendent Marcelo Cavazos, who makes $355,302 as of the 2021-22 school year; Carroll ISD’s Lane Ledbetter, who is making $347,715; and Eagle Mountain-Saginaw’s Jim Chadwell, who makes $341,028.
With over 70,000 students, Fort Worth has the most enrollment out of the other high-paid superintendents.
Statewide, the salary fits in the top 30 out of 1,220 listed in Texas Education Agency records.
The median superintendent salary for 2021–22 is $143,969, an increase of 4.8 percent from last year, according to a survey by the Texas Association of School Boards.
The highest paid leader is Cypress-Fairbanks School chief, who made $512,439 as of the 2021-22 school year.
