Fort Worth school board approves special election to fill District 1 seat
The Fort Worth school district board approved a special election Tuesday to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of trustee Jacinto Ramos Jr. in early March.
The special election will be held on May 7 to decide who will serve the remainder of Ramos’ District 1 term, which expires in 2025.
Ramos, a UT Arlington graduate and TCU adjunct professor, was elected to the district’s board in 2013 and is a former board president.
Ramos announced his plans to step down during a March 8 meeting. His resignation is what’s best for his family and will “allow a new generation of leaders” to continue the work of the board, he said.
District 1 represents the North Side neighborhood and parts of central Fort Worth.
Board candidates and voters must live within District 1. Candidates must have lived in the district for six months prior to the final filing day, which is on March 28 at 5 p.m., according to the Tuesday board meeting agenda.
Last month, the board approved a May 7 special election to fill the vacant seat of trustee Daphne Brookins, who died in November.
Early voting for the election starts April 25 and ends May 3. Election Day and early voting locations are listed on the Tarrant County website.
