North Texas schools and colleges close through Friday due to winter storm

The winter storm will start Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022. Rain will transition to mainly freezing rain and sleet late this afternoon and tonight. With freezing weather in place after a winter storm pummeled North Texas with sleet and snow Wednesday and Thursday, parents and students should be aware of school closings.

Here’s what to know about weather-related school and college closures in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex this week.

All Tarrant County school districts, including Fort Worth ISD and Arlington ISD, have announced cancellations.

Most North Texas schools and colleges have extended closings through this week due to hazardous road conditions. Students are expected to return to classes on Monday, Feb. 7.

Schools

Aledo ISD: Aledo ISD is canceling school on Thursday and Friday, and after-school activities Wednesday. There will be no virtual instruction. Students won’t have to make up these two canceled school days.

Allen ISD: Schools are closed Thursday and Friday.

Alvord ISD: Schools are closed Thursday and Friday.

Anna ISD: Schools and offices are closed on Thursday and Friday.

Argyle ISD: All Argyle campuses and offices will be closed Thursday, Feb. 3 and Friday, Feb. 4. All activities after 6 p.m. Wednesday have been canceled.

Arlington ISD: All Arlington ISD schools and offices will be closed on Thursday, Feb. 3 and Friday, Feb. 4. After-school activities for both days and the Arlington ISD Board of Trustees meeting slated for Feb. 3 have also been canceled.

Athens ISD: All campuses are closed on Thursday, and intervention classes scheduled for Friday are also canceled. Classes will resume Monday.

Aubrey ISD: Schools and administrative offices will be closed Thursday, Feb. 3, and Friday, Feb. 4. All after school activities after 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday are canceled or postponed.

Avalon ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Azle ISD: Schools are closed Thursday and Friday. All after-school activities Wednesday have been canceled as well.

Birdville ISD: BISD will be closed Thursday, Feb. 3 and Friday, Feb. 4. After 5 p.m. Wednesday and during the closure, UIL and extracurricular activities are canceled.

Bland ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Blooming Grove ISD: Schools and administrative offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. All scheduled activities will also be canceled for these two days.

Blue Ridge ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Blum ISD: School is canceled for Thursday and Friday.

Boles ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Bonham ISD: School is canceled on Thursday and Friday. Wednesday after school activities are also canceled.

Boyd ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Bridgeport ISD: The district will be closed Thursday, Feb. 3 and Friday, Feb 4. All after school events and activities through Friday have been canceled as well.

Brock ISD: Brock ISD will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Burleson ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday. No after school extracurriculars, practices or performances Wednesday. No games or practices February 3-4.

Canton ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Carroll ISD: CISD has canceled all of Wednesday’s evening activities and performances, as well as canceled school Thursday and Friday. All campuses and the Administration Building will be closed.

Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD: All CFBISD schools and administrative offices will be closed Thursday, Feb. 3 and Friday, Feb. 4, including all evening activities.

Castleberry ISD: Campuses and offices will be closed, and all athletic and extracurricular events canceled on Thursday and Friday. PACE Saturday activities are canceled.

Cedar Hill ISD: All Cedar Hill ISD schools and administrative offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. All activities are canceled for both days.

Celeste ISD: Schools are closed on Thursday and Friday.

Celina ISD: Closed on Thursday and Friday.

Chico ISD: Students will be released at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Classes and activities canceled on Thursday and Friday.

Chisum ISD: Chisum ISD will close Thursday and Friday. All after-school activities for Friday have been canceled.

Cleburne ISD: All CISD schools and buildings will be closed Thursday and Friday, and all activities are canceled.

Collinsville ISD: All CISD campuses, offices and Little Pirates Childcare will close Thursday and Friday. All after school activities are canceled Wednesday Through Friday.

Commerce ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday. All extracurricular activities are canceled as well.

Community ISD: All schools and offices closed Thursday and Friday, with no virtual or remote instruction.

Coppell ISD: All schools and administrative buildings will be closed Thursday, Feb. 3, and Friday, Feb. 4.

Corsicana ISD: All schools and administrative offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. Friday, March 11 will move to a full instructional school day.

Covington ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Crowley ISD: All schools in Crowley ISD will be closed Thursday and Friday, as will after school programs and activities on Wednesday, according to the district’s website. Take home meals for the days school will be closed will be available for pickup after school Wednesday, and students can get additional information on Wednesday at their respective schools.

Dallas ISD: Dallas ISD schools will be closed Thursday and Friday, the district announced Tuesday.

Dawson ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Denton ISD: Classes canceled on Thursday and Friday.

DeSoto ISD: DeSoto ISD will close all campuses and offices Thursday, Feb. 3 and Friday, Feb. 4. The district will cancel all after school practices, games and extra-curricular activities scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Duncanville ISD: Duncanville ISD will be closed Thursday, Feb. 3 and Friday, Feb. 4. All after-school and athletic activities have also been canceled.

Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD: EMS ISD schools and district offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday, February 3-4. After school and evening practices, meetings and activities also are canceled or postponed Wednesday through Friday.

Ennis ISD: All campuses and business offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday. Regular campus and office hours will resume on Monday.

Everman ISD: The district will be closed Thursday and Friday. After school activities are canceled on Wednesday.

Fannindel ISD: The district will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Farmersville ISD: All FISD campuses and facilities are closed on Thursday and Friday. All activities and practices are canceled for Friday. Classes will resume for students on Tuesday, February 8 at 7:45 a.m.

Ferris ISD: Schools and administrative offices will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Forney ISD: On Thursday and Friday, all Forney ISD campuses and offices will be closed. All extracurricular activities for the evening of Wednesday and Thursday are also canceled. Monday, Feb. 21 and Friday, March 4 will now be full school days to make up for the missed days.

Fort Worth ISD: All schools and district offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. After school activities Wednesday through Friday are canceled. Click here for more information.

Frisco ISD: Frisco ISD will be closed for instruction and business on Thursday and Friday.

Frost ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Gainesville ISD: All campuses will be closed on Thursday and Friday.

Garland ISD: All Garland ISD schools and offices will be closed both Thursday, Feb. 3 and Friday, Feb. 4. Schools will not be required to make up these days.

Garner ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Godley ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Gordon ISD: Closed on Thursday. As of 9 p.m. Thursday, no Friday closure announcement had been made. All extracurricular and after school activities on Wednesday canceled.

Graford ISD: Students dismissed at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The district is closed on Thursday and Friday. All extracurricular activities have been canceled.

Granbury ISD: Schools are closed on Thursday and Friday. All after-school activities for these days are canceled.

Grand Prairie ISD: Schools and offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. There will be no extracurricular activities on these days.

Grandview ISD: All GVISD campuses will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Grapevine-Colleyville ISD: Schools and district facilities will be closed on Thursday and Friday. After school activities for Thursday and Friday will be rescheduled.

Highland Park ISD: District campuses and offices will be closed Thursday, Feb. 3 and Friday, Feb. 4. All Thursday and Friday after-school extracurricular games, events and activities, including classes offered through Academy for Lifelong Learning, have also been canceled or postponed. The district will continue to monitor information from the National Weather Service through the weekend. Classes and offices are expected to reopen following a normal schedule Monday.

Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD: All HEB ISD classes and after school activities have been canceled for Thursday and Friday. Wednesday school activities starting 6 p.m. or later are canceled. Elementary Extended Day will follow regular hours on Wednesday.

Irving ISD: All after school and UIL activities will be canceled Wednesday. All classes, after school and UIL activities have been canceled for Thursday and Friday. The Irving ISD Administration Building will also be closed both days. Students and staff will not transition to remote learning and both days will not have to be made up.

Italy ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday. All extracurricular activities will also be canceled or postponed.

Joshua ISD: Closed on Thursday and Friday, February 3-4. Additionally, all extracurricular activities for those days have been canceled.

Kaufman ISD: Schools are closed Thursday and Friday.

Keller ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Kennedale ISD: All Kennedale ISD schools and offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday. All after school events scheduled for Feb. 2-4 are also canceled.

Kerens ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Krum ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Lake Dallas ISD: All LDISD schools and facilities will be closed for Thursday and Friday. All extracurricular activities will conclude by 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Lake Worth ISD: Lake Worth ISD will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Lancaster ISD: Lancaster ISD campuses will pivot to virtual learning, and district employees will work remotely on Thursday and Friday. Students will get back to in-person learning on Monday.

Lewisville ISD: All LISD facilities and campuses will be closed Thursday, Feb. 3 and Friday, Feb. 4. All activities after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday are canceled.

Lindsay ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Lipan ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Little Elm ISD: Campuses will be closed Thursday and Friday. All after-school activities are also canceled beginning Wednesday night and for the rest of the week. Alphabest before and after school care is also canceled. The make-up day will be Monday, Feb. 21.

Lone Oak ISD: LOISD has decided to close all schools and administration offices on Thursday. As of Thursday at 9 p.m., there was no Friday closure announcement.

Lovejoy ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Mabank ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Malakoff ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Mansfield ISD: Mansfield ISD schools and buildings will be closed Thursday and Friday. After-school activities after 6 p.m. on Wednesday are canceled. All after-school and UIL activities are also canceled on Thursday and Friday. District schools and offices will reopen with a normal schedule on Monday.

McKinney ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday. After school activities canceled Wednesday and for the remainder of the week.

Melissa ISD: Schools and offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday, and there will be no school or extracurricular activities.

Mesquite ISD: Mesquite ISD will be closed on Thursday and Friday. All after-school activities scheduled for Thursday are also canceled.

Midlothian ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Mildred ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Milford ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday. All extracurricular activities will also be canceled or postponed.

Mineral Wells ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday. All after-school and athletic activities have been canceled.

Muenster ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Northwest ISD: Northwest ISD will cancel classes Thursday and Friday. Additionally, all Wednesday after-school activities are canceled or postponed.

Palo Pinto ISD: Schools will dismiss students at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday.

Paradise ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Paris ISD: Paris ISD will close Thursday and Friday.

Peaster ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Pilot Point ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Plano ISD: Schools and facilities will be closed on Thursday and Friday. There will be no instruction, online or in person, on these days. Afternoon and evening activities and competitions are also canceled or postponed for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Poolville ISD: Students will be dismissed at 2:00 Wednesday. All campuses will be closed Thursday and Friday, and all activities will be postponed to a later date.

Princeton ISD: Schools and offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday. There will be no after-school activities Thursday or Friday.

Prosper ISD: Classes (virtual and in-person) are canceled Thursday and Friday. In addition, there will be no after school activities or evening events Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Red Oak ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Rice ISD: Closed on Thursday and Friday of this week. All extracurricular activities will be canceled during this time. School will resume on Monday. These bad weather days are built into the calendar and will not need to be made up.

Richardson ISD: Schools and offices will be closed on Thursday, Feb. 3, and Friday, Feb. 4.

Rockwall ISD: Rockwall ISD schools and support offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. These days will not need to be made up. Except for the ROCK program, after-school activities are canceled Wednesday so students and staff can get home safely.

Royse City ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday. No in-person or online learning. All after school events on Wednesday and Thursday are canceled. The status of Friday events will be determined later.

Sanger ISD: Closed on Thursday and Friday.

Santo ISD: Closed on Thursday and Friday.

Springtown ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday. No virtual classes.

Sunnyvale ISD: Closed on Thursday and Friday.

Terrell ISD: Schools and offices will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Trinidad ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Waxahachie ISD: Closed on Thursday and Friday.

Weatherford ISD: Closed on Thursday and Friday. All extracurricular and after school activities will also be canceled.

White Settlement ISD: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Wylie ISD: All schools and facilities will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Colleges

Collin College: Wednesday’s evening classes that start at 6 p.m. and later have been canceled and the college will close. The college will remain closed (no classes or work) on Feb. 3-4.

Dallas College: All locations will be closed Feb. 3 and 4, with all in-person classes canceled. All online classes and virtual student services will remain open and available. All Dallas College locations will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, due to expected bad weather, and all in-person evening classes are canceled.

Southern Methodist University: SMU classes on Thursday and Friday will be virtual only. Campus activities are canceled.

Tarrant County College: All TCC campuses and offices are closed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Campuses and offices will reopen Monday, Feb. 7.

Texas A&M University - Commerce: All classes on the main Texas A&M University-Commerce campus and the Dallas site are canceled for Wednesday evening (effective at 5 PM) and the university will be closed Thursday and Friday. No academic activities will be held face-to-face or online. The faculty will be in touch regarding class work missed due to the closure.

Texas Christian University: The campus will be closed and all classes are canceled beginning 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2 until noon Feb. 5. Required academic activities canceled until 6 a.m. Feb. 6.

Texas Woman’s University: TWU’s Denton and Dallas campuses will be closed Thursday and Friday. Normal campus operations resume Saturday morning with a delayed start of 11 a.m.

Trinity Valley Community College: All campuses will be closed Thursday and Friday.

University of North Texas: UNT will be closed through Sunday, the university announced Thursday. All Friday and Saturday classes are canceled. The university will reopen Monday, Feb. 7.

University of Texas at Arlington: UT Arlington is closing Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 6 p.m., and will remain closed Thursday, Feb. 3, and Friday, Feb. 4.

University of Texas at Dallas: UT Dallas is canceling classes and activities beginning Feb. 2, at 5:30 p.m. All classes and activities scheduled for Thursday and Friday are also canceled.

Weatherford College: Campuses will close at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2 and will reopen Monday morning, Feb. 7.
