Keller ISD announces two school closures Friday due to COVID-19

Keller’s school district is closing Bear Creek Intermediate School and North Riverside Elementary on Friday after the district said COVID-19 infection rates have led to staffing challenges.

Students at those campuses will not need to do anything to make up for missing that day since the academic calendar accounts for some possible closures, according to an announcement on the district’s website.

The Keller school district announced online that it has done everything possible to keep schools operational, but does not have enough staff or substitutes to continue instruction at those two schools.

The entire district is closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

“We anticipate that those two schools will return to school in person on Tuesday, January 18, but will be closely monitoring the data and working with Keller ISD Health Services and District administrators to determine if an extension is necessary after that date,” the announcement reads. “We will also be monitoring staffing at other campuses and will communicate should any additional closures be needed.”

Mansfield ISD and Northwest ISD announced earlier in the day that all of their schools will be closed Friday through Tuesday due to infection-related absences and staffing problems caused by COVID-19.
