Hurst-Euless-Bedford superintendent to retire after more than 30 years with the district
Hurst-Euless-Bedford schools Superintendent Steve Chapman announced that he retire at the end of the school year in a letter to parents last week.
Chapman has been an educator since 1984, and has spent more than 30 years of his career in the district, according to his profile on the district’s website.
Chapman moved to H-E-B in 1986, teaching one year at Hurst Junior High School and two years at Euless Trinity High School before becoming the high school’s assistant principal for three years.
After a principal tenure in Odessa, he returned to the school district in 1996, first as assistant superintendent for secondary administration, then as deputy superintendent in 2001 before he became superintendent in 2013.
The Hurst-Euless-Bedford had received an “A” rating for the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 from the Texas Education Agency. The agency paused its ratings during amid the pandemic.
In his letter to parents, Chapman said a quality education is key to the future, and that when students are given the necessary tools and support, the possibilities for them are limitless.
“I’m excited about the future of our district,” he said. “No doubt there are challenges that lie ahead, but these challenges also bring new opportunities, and new leadership brings fresh ideas, renewed energy, and a reinvigorating of the system. The future of HEB ISD is bright, and the best is yet to come for our students.”
