Carroll schools superintendent is retiring after 15 years with the district

Carroll schools superintendent David Faltys is retiring after 15 years with the district.

Faltys will stay on until Jan. 4, 2021, according to a news release.

The school board will discuss Faltys’ retirement and hiring a search firm during its regularly scheduled meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

“It has been a tremendous honor to serve this district as Superintendent, and I want to thank the community for caring for our family and especially my kids,” Faltys said in a written statement.

The district also announced Faltys’ retirement on Twitter.

Faltys was going to announce his retirement last spring, with the intention of retiring in August, but he decided to stay on to lead the district because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s been a hard year and it didn’t seem right to step away before the new year started,” he said.

During his tenure, Faltys led three successful bond programs, built up the district’s finances and upgraded technology throughout the district.

During the past 15 years, the district launched a Mandarin Chinese program, a medical academy, and a STEM program focusing on science, technology, engineering and math.
