4 Fort Worth-area school districts announce plans for in-person graduation ceremonies

Four more local school districts announced changes to their in-person graduations for the Class of 2020 on Friday in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Aledo

Aledo will host its 2020 ceremony at the school’s Bearcat Stadium at 10 a.m. May 29.

Each graduate will have four tickets to ensure the event has space for social distancing.

“We are so thrilled to have you back in the stadium one more time to celebrate your outstanding accomplishments,” Aledo principal Dan Peterson said

Eagle-Mountain-Saginaw

The school district is moving its four high school graduations to Chisholm Trail’s Ranger Stadium on May 30: Boswell at 8 a.m., Waston at 11:30 a.m., Chisholm Trail at 2 p.m. and Saginaw at 6 p.m.

“The current governor’s orders do not allow for in-person, indoor graduation ceremonies for the foreseeable future,” Superintendent Dr. Jim Chadwell said. “This stadium has the highest capacity and parking of our three stadium to help accommodate this important event the best.”

Additional information will be announced closer to graduation.

“We were fortunate enough to receive permission from the commissioner of education to keep our original graduation date of May 30,” Chadwell said. “We look to honor the Class of 2020 and maintain our compliance with those rules to keep us all safe.”

Hurst-Euless-Bedford

LD Bell and Euless Trinity are the latest high schools to move graduation ceremonies to Texas Motor Speedway.

Both graduations will take place on May 31, Bell at 10 a.m. and Trinity at 6 p.m.

During the ceremonies, family and friends will remain in their vehicles while parked on the TMS infield as the speedway’s “Big Hoss,” a 12-story-tall video board, broadcasts the events.

Diplomas will be presented in a hands-free method to respect social distancing guidelines outlined by Denton County Health Services. Graduates will wear traditional academic regalia and walk across a staging area to receive their diplomas.

All ceremonies will be livestreamed online.

Graduating students and their families will receive additional information about the ceremony, such as arrival times and parking, soon. The district will share any additional guidelines for the ceremony as health agencies provide recommendations for social distancing and related health precautions.

KEYS High School graduation will take place at the original time of 7 p.m. May 29 at Pennington Field.

White Settlement

Globe Life Field will be home to at least six graduations after White Settlement ISD said that its ceremony will be at the new home of the Texas Rangers.

Brewer High School will have its graduation at 2:30 p.m. June 10.

It’s the third change from the district, including two in the past week. Previously, Brewer was going to have graduation on May 29 at Texas Motor Speedway.

“We continued to search for an option that would enable our families to be together and watch their graduates receive their diplomas as they walk the stage on the field,” said Superintendent Frank Molinar in a press release. “We apologize for the inconvenience that another date change may create for families, but this provides the absolute best (and last) scenario — given the current circumstances — for our seniors.”
