Weatherford school district selects finalist as next superintendent

After several weeks of searching, the Weatherford school district has selected Reagan C. (Beau) Rees as its lone finalist as next superintendent.

The board of trustees announced Rees’ hiring Thursday in a special meeting via a unanimous vote. Texas law requires the school board wait 21 days before formally approving a contract with Rees.

Since 2012, Rees has served as school superintendent of Mongtomery, about an hour northwest of Houston. During his time there, the district received an accountability rating of A from the Texas Education Agency, was named an AP Honor Roll District, and two schools were named National Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education.

“We believe Dr. Rees and his family will be a great fit for our school district and community,” Weatherford ISD Board President Mike Guest said. “His desire to support teachers and engage students, combined with his experience as a superintendent for two school districts are key reasons for his selection.”

Rees has more than 25 years of experience in education, beginning as a classroom teacher. Prior to joining Montgomery ISD, he served as superintendent at Graham for nine years. He also has experience as an elementary and high school principal.

Weatherford trustees began the search for a superintendent in March after Dr. Jeffrey Hanks announced his retirement. Rees is expected to begin working in Weatherford ISD on June 1, and will replace Rod Townsend who is currently serving as interim superintendent.
