DFW has three Powerball winners
Imagine being Chandra Siwatoki, owner of the Appletree Food Mart in Princeton, a town seven miles east of McKinney. You show up for work in the morning and TV reporters are waiting for you, because someone bought a Powerball ticket at your store that earned them a share in Wednesday’s $564.1 million Powerball jackpot.
“”Are you serious? Which one? Powerball? Yesterday?!” Chandra Siwakoti told WFAA/Channel 8. “I cannot believe. It’s exciting, really.” It’s exciting because his store gets a percentage of the win, although Siwatoki didn’t seem to understand that till a reporter told him.
Also there early in the morning: KDFW/Channel 4, which asked Siwatoki what he would do with his $1 million share of the winnings; KXAS/Channel 5 and KTVT/Channel 11 as well as some national crews; as far as we can tell, News 8 is the only one that got video of Siwatoki before he got out of his car, but everyone got their piece of the Nepal-born store owner, who told CBS 11 that he’s been in DFW for 10 years. Many of the reporters seem as excited as Siwatoki, even though they had to be out there in 39-degree weather.
The Princeton winning ticket, which had all six Powerball numbers, will be shared with winners in North Carolina and Puerto Rico, the latter of which is the first Powerball winner outside the continental United States, according to The Associated Press. The winning numbers were 25-11-54-13-39 and Powerball 19.
People who got all the numbers except for the Powerball scored a million-dollar prize — not a bad consolation gift. CBS 11 and other stations reported that the $1 million tickets were sold at a RaceTrac along Euless Boulevard in Euless and at a Chevron gas station off of Fort Worth’s Bridgewood Drive.
According to the Texas Lottery, the Texan Powerball winner’s share will total $127,046,150.05 (gotta have that nickel!). The Texas Lottery will hold a news conference at 2 p.m. Thursday at its Austin headquarters to discuss the winner.
