Suspect in Dallas carjacking is found in jail, officials say
A 28-year-old Dallas man has been identified as a suspect in a carjacking last month in which the car driver was dragged along the pavement for several feet, authorities said this week.
After the Dallas County sheriff’s department released surveillance video of the July 27 attack, viewers called in tips that the carjacker was 28-year-old Leedon Ireland.

Once officials had the name, Ireland was easy to track down: He had been arrested Aug. 2 on an unrelated charge and was in the Dallas County Jail. He has since been transferred to Collin County on an unrelated burglary charge.
In the dragging incident, a resident of Pecan Lake Mobile Home Park in Dallas got out of his 2013 Honda Civic to get mail and left it running, the sheriff’s department said.
The carjacker jumped behind the wheel and started to drive away. The resident grabbed the door handle and was dragged for several feet. The car was recovered later. The resident was treated for scrapes and bruises.
