NBA player Bryce Dejean-Jones was found dead in Dallas Friday night, the Dallas County medical examiner confirmed to News 8.

Police said Dejean-Jones, 23, who played with the New Orleans Pelicans, had allegedly kicked down the front door of the Camden Belmont apartments in the 2500 block of Bennett Avenue around 3:20 a.m. A resident of the apartment, who was asleep at the time, woke up and grabbed a handgun and shot Dejean-Jones.

Dejean-Jones collapsed in the breezeway of the apartment complex, police said. He died after being taken to a local hospital.

Sources told News 8 Dejean-Jones' girlfriend lives in the Camden Belmont complex.

Dejean-Jones was called up from the NBA Developmental League in January and signed a three-year contract with the New Orleans Pelicans in February. He played in 14 games with the Pelicans this season.
