Farmers Branch officer shot teen after chase in Addison, police say

The attorney representing an off-duty Farmers Branch police officer involved in a deadly shooting said he feared for his life before opening fire.

Officer Ken Johnson was off duty when he fatally shot a 16-year-old after chasing the teen and a companion in Addison Sunday night.

Johnson, who has been with the department since March 2015, previously served in the U.S. Army and was an officer with the DART police before working in Farmers Branch.

Family members identified the teen as Jose Raul Cruz of Dallas.

Surveillance video obtained by News 8 on Monday shows Johnson in his personal vehicle pursuing a red Dodge Challenger, driven by Cruz.
