Jordan Spieth buys Hunter Mahan’s $7 million mansion in Dallas

Jordan Spieth and Hunter Mahan played together in the first two rounds of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial in Fort Worth last May. In between birdies and rain showers, did Hunter happen to mention that his sweet 16,665-square-foot pad in Preston Hollow was on the market?

It’s got an indoor basketball court, golf simulator, infinity pool, wine cellar, and a 12-car garage with a mural of the August National clubhouse on the wall. Perfect for the world’s No. 1 golfer and Fed-Ex champion, whose golf winnings topped $22 million in 2015.

Of course, we’ll never know what they talked about at Colonial, but in December, Spieth purchased the palatial spot in Dallas, according to multiple reports. And he got a good deal, too, says real estate blogger Candy Evans, paying $7.15 million for the five-bedroom, six-bath home, which was listed at nearly $8.5 million

Spieth didn’t win the 2015 Colonial; Chris Kirk claimed the plaid jacket. But Jordan did finish in a three-way tie for second. (Maybe if he had won, he’d have considered buying Tom Hicks’ Dallas estate, which recently sold for $100 million.)

But Spieth’s new digs seem to agree with him. He won the first tournament of the 2016 season in Hawaii by eight strokes. It was his seventh PGA tour victory. And he is teeing it up this week in Abu Dhabi at the HSBC Championship with World No. 3 Rory McIlroy and No. 6 Rickie Fowler. Look for another big finish there. He’s got house payments to make!
