Terminal evacuated, ground stop during fire alarm at Dallas Love Field airport
The Federal Aviation Administration on Tuesday issued a ground stop for Dallas Love Field as the airport responded to a fire alarm, officials said.
“Dallas Fire Rescue is responding to a fire alarm at DAL,” airport officials wrote on X at 2:24 p.m. “For your safety, please follow the airport staff’s instructions. We will provide updates as they become available from DFR. Thank you for your understanding.”
The airport terminal was evacuated following the alarm. In an update shortly before 3 p.m., the airport posted that the alarm had been cleared and the TSA screening queue was reopening. “The cause of the alarm is under investigation,” the post said. “Passengers may experience delays during security screening, so please be patient.”
Dallas Fire-Rescue officials could not immediately confirm whether there was a fire at the airport, but the first engine company to arrive on scene reported “overheating equipment.”
The alarm was triggered by a malfunction within an HVAC unit at the airport, Dallas Fire-Rescue later said. Upon investigation, it was determined that there was no smoke or fire inside the unit, and the issue was left to airport maintenance.
No injuries have been reported, officials said.
The ground stop was expected to be in effect at the airport until at least 3:30 p.m., according to the FAA. A ground stop prevents flights bound for the airport from taking off until the advisory has been lifted.
It was not clear whether the ground stop and fire alarm are related.
