Dallas police officers responded to a disturbance call in the 13800 block of Far Hills Lane at about 7:40 p.m. Aug. 26 regarding a man threatening everyone in the home with a knife and threatening to harm himself, police said.

Police said officers knocked on the front door, which was answered by a woman, and entered the home, where they found a man armed with a knife.

The man refused to comply with officer’s repeated commands. Officers moved the woman away from the home as the armed man followed them outside, still holding the knife, police said.

Shortly after, the man went back inside the home and barricaded himself. Police said the man had an outstanding felony warrant and was facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

SWAT responded, fatally shot man

When the SWAT officers arrived at the scene, they ordered the man to come outside, police said.

When there was no compliance, SWAT team entered the home and tried to use “less than lethal force” to take the man into custody, police said. Officers deployed a Taser twice, but both attempts were “ineffective,” police said.

At that time, the man “charged the SWAT officers with the knife”, and he was then shot. He was pronounced dead on the scene, Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said during a briefing on Wednesday.
