The baby giraffe born at the Dallas Zoo in April as people around the world watched online died Tuesday evening after an accident in its enclosure.

“This is a huge loss for our giraffe herd, our staff and our guests,” zoo president and CEO Gregg Hudson said in a written statement. “We’re crushed, and everyone here is in mourning.”

For those interested in donating in Kepenzi's memory, the Dallas Zoo recommends The Giraffe Conservation Foundation.
