Dallas-Fort Worth area Alamo Drafthouse cinemas begin reopening this weekend
After closing earlier this summer, all five Dallas-Fort Worth area Alamo Drafthouse Cinema locations are reopening this month.
In early June, all five of the North Texas area Alamo locations shuttered due to Two is One, One is None, LLC filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. The company was a franchisee with Alamo, who operated the five Dallas-Fort Worth area locations and one in Woodbury, Minnesota, which also closed.
That following week, Sony Pictures Entertainment purchased the entire Alamo Drafthouse Cinema chain. Just a couple weeks after that, Alamo Drafthouse corporate announced that it had purchased the five North Texas area locations and would reopen soon.
Finally, movie fans can start going back to Alamo Drafthouse locations in Dallas-Fort Worth this weekend. Here’s what to know:
When are Dallas-Fort Worth area Alamo Drafthouse locations reopening?
Alamo’s Richardson location (100 S. Central Expressway suite 14) is the first to reopen and will do so Friday.
To celebrate the reopening, Alamo is offering $5 tickets and 25% off select menu items from now through Aug. 22. Tickets can be purchased online at drafthouse.com/theater/richardson.
The other four Dallas-Fort Worth area Alamo locations reopen over the next few weeks:
- Lake Highlands (6770 Abrams Road, Dallas): Aug. 13
- Cedars (1005 Botham Jean Blvd., Dallas): Aug. 16
- Denton (3220 Town Center Trail, Denton): Aug. 20
- Las Colinas (320 W. Las Colinas Blvd. building A2, Irving): Aug. 23
Alamo is also offering $5 tickets and 25% off select menu items at the other four theaters for two weeks after each opening.
What movies are showing at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema?
The two new film releases this week are a pair of adaptions.
“Borderlands” is a video game adaption from director Eli Roth that stars Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart and Jamie Lee Curtis. “It Ends with Us” is an adaption of Texas author Colleen Hoover’s novel that stars Blake Lively, Brandon Sklenar and Justin Baldoni.
Also playing at Alamo Drafthouse locations are “Twisters” and “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Next week, xenomorphs will take over cinemas when “Alien: Romulus” releases.
