No gas detected after report of natural-gas odor at AT&T Discovery District in Dallas
There were no gas readings picked up at the AT&T Discovery District after a caller reported a natural-gas odor outside the buildings on Thursday, Dallas Fire-Rescue announced in a news release.
At 3:04 p.m. Thursday, Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a 911 call about a gas leak at 208 South Akard Street in downtown Dallas. The caller reported a strong natural-gas odor outside of AT&T Discovery.
Dallas Fire-Rescue’s Hazard Materials team and Atmos Energy were notified to investigate the situation.
HazMat technicians went into all the buildings and around the area and picked up no gas readings, with the strongest readings being outside the buildings, according to DFR.
The source of the leak was discovered to be in an area near a manhole outside of the building, and Atmos technicians were addressing the situation, DFR said in the release.
There were no injuries reported and there were no evacuations required.
The report of the gas leak comes three days after the basement level in the Sandman Signature Hotel in downtown Fort Worth exploded. While natural gas did play a role, Fort Worth officials are still investigating to confirm if the gas leak caused the explosion or if the explosion led to the gas leak.
