4 Dallas police officers injured near shooting scene when SUV struck by another vehicle
Four Dallas police officers working a shooting call were injured when a vehicle they were using for cover was struck by a pickup truck, officials said.
Police were dispatched to a home in the 3100 block of Community Drive around 3:15 a.m. regarding a shooting.
When officers arrived they found a man shot. He was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, according to police.
The officers used a police SUV to shield themselves while they tried to get the suspect, 22-year-old Angel Morales to exit the house, Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV reported. He refused to come out for officers and tried to escape from a window. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, police said.
A driver — 45-year-old Christopher Ramirez — crashed into a patrol vehicle, ejecting an officer who was sitting in the front of the SUV. The patrol vehicle then struck three officers who were standing nearby, police said. The four officers were taken to a local hospital for treatment and later released, police said in a news release. One of them may have a broken bone, according to WFAA, and the other three sustained minor injuries.
Police detained Ramirez at the scene. A test for intoxication came back negative but Ramirez was arrested and faces four counts of aggravated assault and four counts of passing an authorized emergency vehicle, police said.
Officials said that the driver wasn’t involved in the shooting call that had brought officers to the location.
There is no indication that Ramirez was impaired at the time of the crash, police said in the release.
The investigation is ongoing.
