A baby and a 25-year-old man died and a woman was injured early Saturday near White Rock Lake when their vehicle hit a curb and a tree, Dallas police said.

A gray Mercury Milan was traveling northbound on E. Grand Avenue around 2:45 a.m. when driver James Lee Bernard lost control and hit a curb and then a tree, police said. The accident occurred in the 6400 block of Grand Avenue.

Bernard died at the scene, and a 22-year-old woman passenger was taken to a local hospital in serious condition. A baby, who was sitting on the passenger’s lap, was also taken to a local hospital but later died.

The vehicle had been moving at a high rate of speed before the accident, police said.
