Dallas officers arrest suspect who fired shots on golf course on Jim Miller Road: police
After a six-hour standoff, Dallas police arrested a suspect who allegedly crashed a car with stolen plates and fired gunshots at a citizen and law enforcement officers on a Dallas golf course, officials said.
Police had been trying to negotiate with the suspect Wednesday before apprehending him about 4 p.m., according to reporting by Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV.
The Dallas Police Department said that a large number of officers were on the scene in the 2300 block of Jim Miller Road in the southeastern area of Dallas.
The Dallas Police Department identified the suspect as 31-year-old Kevin Knowles in a Thursday news release.
According to the release, officers began following a vehicle with suspected stolen license plates near the 10500 block of Casnett shortly after 9 a.m. The suspect’s car crashed near Bruton Road and Jim Miller Road and the suspect ran into the Keeton Park Golf Course.
Officials said in the release that the suspect stole two golf carts and shot at someone who tried to stop him from taking one of the carts.
Knowles barricaded himself in a concrete drainage ditch and shot at the SWAT officers who tried to take him into custody, the release said. Some of the rounds hit a search robot and the ballistic shield held by a SWAT officer.
Multiple SWAT vehicles were on the scene, WFAA-TV reported, and golfers were locked in the clubhouse.
No injuries were reported at the golf course, police said, but one person was injured in the vehicle crash and transported to a hospital.
According to the release, Knowles surrendered after a chemical agent was used by police. He was initially taken to the hospital as a precaution and then to the Lew Sterrett Jail.
Knowles faces charges of aggravated assault of a public servant, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest/ detention with vehicle, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, accident involving injury and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.
