Firefighters arrived at a home in the 7900 block of Simpkins Drive around 5 a.m. and found flames so high they reached above nearby trees, according to a press release.

Officials confirmed to Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV that firefighters found a dead man, believed to be in his 50s, in one of the front rooms of the house. The identity of the victim has not been released.

Firefighters also found a dead pet in another room.
