Woman searched Dallas boyfriend’s phone for affair. She found him molesting 5-year-old
A 27-year-old Dallas man who filmed himself sexually abusing a 5-year-old girl has been sentenced to 30 years in a federal prison, according to Chad E. Meacham, U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Texas.
Federal authorities began an investigation on Michael Angelo Vasquez in 2020 after his then-girlfriend suspected he was having an affair, searched his iPhone and discovered the images of him sexually assaulting a 5-year-old child.
Vasquez was charged via criminal complaint in July 2020 and indicted the following month. He pleaded guilty in May 2021 to production of child pornography.
The Dallas man was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Jane J. Boyle, who ruled he should receive the statutory maximum penalty.
Vasquez later admitted that he filmed at least four videos of himself sexually abusing the child and later shared the video online via an instant messaging platform, according to federal documents.
Authorities connected the child with the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, which provides resources for abused children.
Homeland Security Investigations’ Dallas Field Office and the Dallas Police Department conducted the investigation.
