Southwest Airlines will not be running service out of Dallas Love Field on Thursday in anticipation of winter weather coming into the region this week, according to its website.

Travelers who were planning to fly to, from or through Dallas have been encouraged to change reservations or look into rebooking their travel plans in the original class or service or traveling standby for no additional charge, according to the website.

The airline also warns of delays, diversions and cancellations in other cities in its South Central region Wednesday and Thursday:

  • Amarillo
  • Austin
  • Lubbock
  • San Antonio
  • Midland/Odessa
  • Little Rock
  • Louisville, Kentucky
  • Memphis
  • Tulsa
  • Oklahoma City
  • Wichita, Kansas

American Airlines also announced on its website travel advisories at DFW Airport and in Amarillo, Lubbock and Wichita Falls and others outside the state. The airline says travelers who want or need to cancel or change a flight must have their flight booked by Feb. 3 and should complete the change within one year of the original ticket date. Differences in fare may apply.

Travelers wanting to cancel their American Airlines reservation should do so online. Anybody who booked a flight through a travel agency will have to contact that agency to make any changes or cancel, according to the website.

The airline told KTVT (CBS 11) that flights at DFW Airport have been canceled because of winter weather.

“This week’s winter storm is expected to have a significant impact on our operation, especially in the Northeast and Central regions of the United States,” the airline said in a statement. “The vast majority of impacted flights have been canceled in advance so we could proactively notify and accommodate our customers and avoid last minute disruptions at the airport.”

As of 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a representative from Dallas Love Field said the airport has not heard from the other two airlines that utilize the airport, Delta Airlines and Alaska Airlines. The airport is advising travelers to continue to check with their airlines for cancellations.

According to Flight Aware, 22% of flights to DFW and 12% of flights from DFW scheduled for Wednesday were canceled as of Wednesday afternoon.

North Texas is under a winter storm warning this week, with temperatures forecast to drop into the teens and 20s for several nights beginning Wednesday, with wind chills as low as minus-5 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.
