Eleven Dallas detectives test positive for COVID-19, 20 police employees quarantine

Eleven Dallas detectives in the crimes against persons’ robbery and assault units have tested positive for COVID-19, Dallas police reported Tuesday night.

The detectives received their results between Friday and Tuesday.

That brings the total number of officers and civilians employed by the Dallas Police Department who have tested positive since the outbreak to 50.

On Tuesday, Dallas County officials reported a total of 17,744 COVID-19 cases, including 324 deaths.

The Dallas detectives had been working out of police headquarters and the Park Forest Branch Library, 3421 Forest Lane. They left those areas when they started exhibiting symptoms or they were made aware of possible exposure.

Twenty employees assigned to the crimes against persons’ robbery and assault units have been placed on quarantine while awaiting test results or for precautionary reasons.

Here’s the breakdown for Dallas Police Department officers and civilians who have tested positive for COVID-19:

40 sworn officers.

10 civilians.

20 of the 50 have returned to work.

2 were hospitalized, but there are no officers or civilians as of Wednesday in the hospital.

48 currently quarantined/self-monitoring.

204 quarantine ended and able to return to work.
