Dallas officers shoot, injure man who started firing at them, police say
Dallas officers shot and injured a man who started firing toward them early Tuesday morning on Texas State Highway Spur 408, police said.
The man, who was reportedly shooting his gun when officers arrived, is in stable condition at a hospital.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
Officers responded around 12:45 a.m. to a report of a man on-foot firing a gun at Spur 408 and Kiest Boulevard, police said in a news release. They located the man walking on the northbound side of Spur 408, police said, and made contact with him.
At this time, the man started firing toward the officers, police said.
Officers fired back in response, striking the man several times, a police spokesperson said at an early morning press conference. Police didn’t say how many officers fired their weapons.
The man was transported to a hospital.
Initial evidence found at the scene supports the officers’ account of the shooting, police said.
The spokesperson said there were no witnesses to the shooting and officers haven’t been able to interview the man yet, police said.
A gun was recovered at the scene, police said.
An investigation into the shooting is underway.
