Catch a flight to Austin or Houston for $50

Want to hop down to Austin for no particular reason? Cheap?

Southwest’s big twice-a-year fare sale is on for the next couple of days. You can fly to the state capital and dozens of other places out of Love Field for $49. New Orleans, for example — $100 round trip, not including government taxes and other fees.

Longer flights are included in the sale on an ascending scale.

How about the Windy City? $99 one way.

A visit to the relatives in Columbus, Ohio? Same.

Beat the crowds to Ft. Lauderdale: $160 round trip.

Longer flights — to Sacramento and Portland, for example — are going for $129 one way.

The sale went into effect Tuesday and ends at 11:59 p.m. Thursday. It covers non-stop flights from Aug. 22 to Dec. 13, excluding Fridays and Sundays, and days surrounding Labor Day and Thanksgiving. Flights out of Albany, N.Y., and Manchester, N.H., are excluded altogether, but some $49 one-way sales were popping up at both airports, USA Today reports.

USA Today notes that Southwest’s cheapest fares appear to be more limited than in past sales, appearing on most days on the advertised routes but not always on every flight. At the same time, the prices on some routes dropped lower than the advertised fares.

Southwest’s international routes are included in the sale. Check details here.
