Dallas man who robbed five DFW banks gets 10 years in prison
A Dallas man who admitted robbing or attempting to rob five North Texas banks, including two in Tarrant County, was sentenced Thursday to more than 10 years in federal prison.
Joshua Sefnathn Chavez, 24, of Dallas, pleaded guilty in March to five counts of bank robbery. The robberies occurred during the first 10 days of September 2015, according to a news release from the U.S. attorney’s office.
Chavez admitted that he entered the Bank of Texas in far north Fort Worth, a Wells Fargo Bank in North Richland Hills and three Dallas banks with the intent to commit bank robbery, the release said.
In most of the robberies, Chavez handed the teller a bank bag and note indicating he wanted cash and he had a gun. In four robberies, the teller handed over the money. He didn’t get cash in the North Richland Hills holdup.
A CrimeStoppers tip led police to Chavez, the release said.
