On the first day of school, a Haltom High School student was arrested after another student told officers that the student had a gun and had threatened him, police reported.

The gun turned out to be an air gun that is a realistic replica of a Beretta 92 handgun, according to a Haltom City Police Department news release.

Detective Matt Spillane said a replica is treated the same as a firearm.

“There was no external way to see that it was not actually a legitimate bullet-firing weapon,” Spillane said.

Both students are 15. After one told a school resource officer about the other student’s gun and threat, more officers were called in, the news release said. They found the teen in a classroom and detained him. He acknowledged having brought the gun to school, and police seized it.

He was arrested and faces a juvenile charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, the news release said.
