Four Fort Worth officers show support for gay marriage in ad

Four police officers are featured in an ad running this week to show their support for gay marriage.

The 30-second ad features detective Chris Gorrie talking about his hopes of one day marrying his partner, Justin. Three of Gorrie’s colleagues — detective Monica Jackson, officer Jay Doshi and detective Allison Fincher — express their support for Gorrie in the ad.

“Texans believe in freedom and liberty and part of that is to be able to marry who you love, so Chris should be able to marry whoever he loves,” Doshi says in the video, which began running in select Texas cities Sunday.

Freedom to Marry is airing the television ad days before the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals is expected to hear oral arguments in DeLeon v. Perry, a case challenging Texas’ gay marriage ban.

Gorrie had previously gone public with his story in an LGBT recruitment video featured on the police department’s YouTube Channel.
