Driver killed in collision on Little Road in Arlington

A 43-year-old Mansfield woman was killed Monday afternoon, and a boy in the car was injured in a collision with a pickup, Arlignton police reported.

The woman, identified as Maria Mendoza-Deguzman, was leaving a Taco Cabana parking lot about 5:30 p.m. in the 4300 block of Little Road when she was struck by a northbound pickup driver, police Lt. Chris Cook, an Arlington police spokesman, said.

She was attempting to cross the three main lanes of Little Road to enter another business when her car was struck, Cook said.

“She was struck as soon as her car reached the inside main lane of the northbound lanes, which caused her car to spin and strike a light pole,” Cook said.

The woman was taken to the Medical Center of Arlington where she was pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m., according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

The boy is expected to survive, police said.

The pickup driver, who is in his 50s, was also taken to a local hospital and is expected to face charges of driving while intoxicated once he is released, Cook said.

Police are still investigating if the woman failed to yield to right-of-way or if the man caused the crash, Cook said. — Monica S. Nagy
