Lewisville special education aide accused of having sex with student
A special education aide has admitted to a detective that she had sex with a student on several occasions in the last couple of months, police said Tuesday.
Police identified the suspect as Krista Young, 33, of Little Elm, who was a paraprofessional at the Purnell Support Center. She surrendered to authorites on Friday and was booked into the Denton County Jail on Sunday.
Young is accused of having sex several times with a 16-year-old male student of the support center, a special education school in the Lewisville district at 136 W. Purnell Center.
“Detectives don’t believe it happened on campus,” Lewisville police Capt. Dan Rochelle said Tuesday.
Police did not elaborate.
Detectives were first alerted by Lewisville school officials on Dec. 16. They said they had received information that a school employee may have had inappropriate contact with a student.
On the same day, a detective interviewed Young, who admitted having sex with a student who attends Purnell, authorities said. School officials notified Purnell parents of the investigation the same day.
Rochelle said Tuesday that detectives had not heard from any other students who may have had contact with Young.
Young is expected to be charged with improper relationship with an educator and student, a second-degree felony. If convicted, she faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Young remained in the Denton County Jail on Tuesday with bail set at $10,000.
Anyone with information on the case should contact Lewisville police at 972-219-3600.
