Flash chemical fire injures two in Fort Worth

A man and woman were transported to the burn unit at Parkland Memorial Hospital on Monday afternoon after a flash chemical fire burned their upper bodies, said Lt. Kyle Falkner, a Fort Worth fire spokesman.

Falkner said the two sustained first-degree burns at about 2:30 p.m. at Bodycote Thermal Processing, at 2005 Montgomery St., where they work.

The two workers opened a furnace door and it was hotter than they thought, MedStar spokesman Matt Zavadsky said.

He said the two were taken to Parkland primarily as a precaution.

Firefighters did not need to extinguish any flames, Falkner said.

The two were sent to Parkland because the burns affected their upper bodies, and there is the potential for their airways to become affected, Falkner said.

“Burns involving the airway and face automatically go to Parkland,” he said.
