A woman who was killed along with her 3-year-old son in a mobile home fire Monday has been identified as Amber Donahue, 27, of Granbury.

Donahue was pronounced dead at 10:15 a.m. after a fire erupted in her mobile home at 224 Paula Court. She died of smoke inhalation and thermal burns, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

Her son, who was found lying on the bed with her in the master bedroom, had not been officially identified by Thursday night.

WFAA previously identified the boy as 3-year-old Kenny Burdette Jr.

Spring Creek volunteer firefighters responded to a neighbor’s 911 call just before 9 a.m. Monday and found Donahue’s husband trying to get inside.

Parker County spokesman Joel Kertok said the husband left work when he learned the house was on fire and ran home. As he tried to run into the burning mobile home, a neighbor and a firefighter attempted to restrain him. The firefighter was knocked to the ground.

Some media outlets reported that the father was taken into custody for assault, but that is not the case, Kertok said.

“The dad was never arrested or taken into custody,” he said. “The firefighter wasn’t hurt and didn’t want to press charges or anything.”

The home had multiple space heaters, but the Parker County fire marshal has yet to determine what caused the fire.
