Sherman man wanted on multiple counts of sexual assault; reward offered
The Texas Department of Public Safety has added a man from Sherman to its Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list, according to a press release from DPS.
James Lee Kirby is 49 years old and is wanted for failure to appear, prior charges of first-degree rape and incest, one count of aggravated sexual assault and two counts of sexual assault.
Texas Crime Stoppers is now offering a cash reward of up to $7,500 for any information leading to his arrest, and ensures that all tips are anonymous.
His first arrest warrant was issued on Feb. 2, out of Bryan County, Oklahoma, and his second on June 2 out of Grayson County, Texas.
Kirby was arrested in Grayson County in November 2024 on a charge of aggravated sexual assault but was released a few weeks later on bail. In 2026, he was awaiting a hearing on his charges of rape and incest out of Oklahoma when his GPS monitoring device stopped operating, and he has been missing ever since, according to DPS.
Kirby is 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighs between 250 and 300 pounds. He has multiple tattoos on his arms and hands.
He has a tattoo of an animal skull with the words “size matters” on his upper right arm, a tattoo of an animal in scope crosshairs on his upper left arm, along with other tattoos on his lower right arm, lower left arm, right hand/thumb and lower left leg, according to DPS.
DPS said that he is known to be a hunter and has access to firearms.
He has ties to Sherman, Texas, and Cartwright, Oklahoma.
