Grand Prairie police arrested a homicide suspect who ran from the scene where a man was shot to death in an alley on Saturday night, police said.

Officers were called about 11:45 p.m. on July 4 to an alleyway in the 5000 block of Red River Trail, according to a news release. They found the shooting victim, identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as 35-year-old Robert Tovar.

Grand Prairie Fire Department medics took Tovar to the emergency room at Medical City Arlington hospital, where he was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

Detectives determined that Tovar and the suspect, 20-year-old Eduardo Jaime, of Cedar Hill, were involved in a fight that escalated when Jaime pulled out a handgun and shot Tovar, police said.

Police said that Jaime fled for a short distance but was quickly caught by responding officers.
